Admission Requirements

Every year, a sizable number of Indian students apply to study in the UK. Below is a summary of the general minimum entry requirements for Indian applicants. Before applying, please carefully review the exact requirements for your chosen programme.

IB or A-levels

You can apply for direct entry to the first year of an undergraduate or bachelor's degree if you are pursuing A-levels or the IB.
Standard academic requirements:
- A*AA to ABB in A-levels
- IB: 34-38 points, with Higher Level (HL) subjects scoring 7, 6, 6, - 6, 5, 5.
Subject specific requirements may apply.

Advanced Secondary School Diplomas

If a student earns a Higher Secondary School Certificate at the conclusion of CBSE/ISC Standard XII, they are typically eligible for direct entry into the first year of undergraduate studies as long as they have received an overall grade point average of between 80 and 95 percent. The required minimum varies depending on the program of study that is selected. Contact the International Office for more details.
Students will be given consideration for the university's Science and Engineering with an Integrated Foundation Year program if they earn an overall Standard XII grade of 70% or higher (with a minimum of 75% in Mathematics and Physics and 65% in English). Following completion of the Standard XII HSC, individual applications for the University's Biosciences with a foundation year program would be taken into consideration.

If a minimum overall score of 80-95% is attained, we will also take into consideration applications for direct entry to the first year of undergraduate programs from the following State Boards:
-State Board applicants from Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Gujarat will not be taken into consideration for medicine.
In order to be considered for the foundation programs (engineering and science, humanities and social sciences (including management and law), biosciences, pharmacy, and psychology) run in collaboration with the University by INTO Manchester, students must have received an overall Standard XII grade of 65% or higher from exam boards that are not listed above.
There may also be requirements for particular subjects.

Undergraduate entry requirements

Master's Courses

For postgraduate study, candidates must have a minimum of a three-year degree and a First Class grade from an accredited institution. Depending on the caliber of the previous institution of higher learning and the grading system, the minimum requirement typically ranges from 60 to 80% overall.
The program descriptions list any prerequisites and additional requirements.

MBA

A minimum of three years of professional work experience is required for the Manchester MBA. Read the MBA entry requirements in their entirety. The University of Manchester provides a variety of one-year master's programs that present academically qualified students without relevant work experience with an alluring alternative.

PHD

Students are only considered for PhDs if they have successfully completed a minimum of a three-year degree and have earned First Class at a reputable university (or if they have successfully completed a three-year degree with First Class and also obtained a master's from a reputable university).

All international students who are traveling to the UK to pursue their studies on a Tier 4 visa or Student Route visa must provide proof of their English language proficiency. Each program's minimal English language requirements are listed on the course description. We accept a variety of international English tests, including IELTS and TOEFL iBT. In addition, depending on the Board and final score obtained, we might be able to accept English from Indian Standard XII exams. Please get in touch with the International Office or the appropriate admissions team for more information on demonstrating English language proficiency.
